Hi Betty/WA,
I'm a notary here in Utah and ask myself the same question as many of us out there do at this time. Personally this is the 2nd company that has filed BK that i've completed work for this past year. After calling several phone numbers, one of the alternative emergency contacts instructed notaries to contact Mercury Companies Incorporated out of Denver, CO. I do not know if this will help any of us that are due funds from LFC.
Though i often wonder lately due to the industry crunch who to trust any more when contacted an contracted for business. I greatly wish there was a way to protect ourselves as independent contractors to feel more confident about tomorrow in today's market. Several thoughts of Unionization, Borrower(s) paying at the time of services rendered, or a written agreement between notary and borrower signed by borrower at time of services that honors payment to notary if not compensated from SS or Title/Escrow Companies. Please when i say Borrower(s) paying at the time of services rendered i'am not stateing that SS should be cut out, just that the Title/Escrow Company assisting with Settlement Services can still disburse the SS company their share as contracted between themselves. I must be dreaming to possibly consider any of these options.
Just frustrated with chasing payments and/or non-payment at all. Especially very frustrating to hear and or think that everyone else is paid but the Notary. Is it all worth it, i ask myself? It seems lately you wonder if we might have a new title, volunteer Notary Public here for free.
What a terrible situation for all involved with LFC at this time.
My outstanding balance due from LFC is a weeks wages in the Midwest here. Maybe a new career is on the horizon. Wish all the organizations that bring us all together and bring SS companies our direction could assist with new organization that protects us from these situations. Guess, just add it to the list of write offs for 2008 taxes.
Take care and good luck obtaining what is due. |
