There are no shortcuts to finding work in this field. The companies that advertise that they will give you business/leads are preying upon newbies who aren't willing to do the marketing to find work. In the vast majority of cases, they're the only ones making any money.
To test that out, try playing the role of someone looking for your services online. What would you search for? See what shows up. There are very few that will be on the first page - and if you can't find them, neither can folks who might want your notary service. There are very few that have undertaken the work and expense to get their sites ranked or to market themselves directly with businesses that hire notaries, and only a couple (including this site, in some places) that are worth it.
There are some platforms out there that might generate some text or email blasts for loan signings, but to get those assignments, you have to first be in their data base to get the blasts, then have quick thumbs and be the first to respond. Also, from what I read here, the fees they're offering are abysmal, and if you're not careful, you could find yourself working at a loss, if you get that work. [I don't bother at all with any of those sites.] If you're in a rural area with little competition, you can make counter offers on some and may have a decent chance.
My recommendation is to save your $300, and spend lots of time reading this forum and searching the archives here. Every time that question has been asked (hundreds of times), the answer is different, so there's lots of knowledge to be mined here, mostly (but not all) from people who are out in the trenches, earning a living at this. Over time, you'll learn who to listen to and who to ignore... Then go market, market, market!
