She isn't following CDC guidelines, she's just parroting Trump. The guidelines do not call for schools to be fully open 5 days a week - there's a lot of leeway to account for local conditions.
Trump wants the schools to open because he thinks it will help his reelection chances. He's turned his back on the pandemic and is focusing on making things look "normal" again, mistakenly thinking that will attract voters.
The current models show that we will have 200,000 or more dead by election day. All on his watch, much of which could have been avoided if he had just taken decisive action sooner. He desperately needs the economy to be fully opened again, but that's not going to happen - some states are moving to shut down again in order to get the virus under control.
How do you campaign while standing on a pile of 200,000 dead Americans and asking voters to give you four more years? You can't - it's a losing proposition. |
