The deal was working - Iran was complying and the inspectors were confirming it. The EU stayed in the deal after Trump pulled us out of it for no clear reason other than his opinion that it was a "bad deal". What was so bad about a deal in which Iran agreed to cut back their nuclear efforts in return for a gradual easing of sanctions over time? Trump didn't understand the deal, all he knew was that Obama was for it, so he had to be against it.
He keeps repeating the lie that we paid Iran over a billion $ in the deal - IT WAS THEIR MONEY! We just agreed to let them have it back. It was money paid for military equipment that was never delivered after the Shah was deposed.
For a guy with a degree "from Wharton", he really has no grasp of economics.
(An aside: he's not a Wharton graduate - Wharton graduates have a Master's degree. He has a BA in economics from UPenn after transferring in from another college in his junior year, and took his economics classes at the Wharton campus - all other classes were taken elsewhere. He claims to have graduated at the top of his class, but the evidence shows that he didn't receive any graduation honors at all).
He also keeps repeating this lie that we are collecting billions from China because of the tariffs. China hasn't paid us a single dime - the importers pay the tariffs, and the costs are eventually passed to us, the American citizens, in the form of higher prices. But he keeps saying this blatant lie, apparently in the belief that if you repeat a lie often enough, the sheeple will believe it.
Trump created this crisis, just as he has created others, probably planning to do something to show that he resolved the crisis he created and be the hero. Iran is not playing that game, and now we're on the edge of another war in the Middle East. None of this would have happened had he left well enough alone. Was the Iranian deal perfect? No. Was it working? Yes. Why did we pull out? If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. This is all on Trump. |
