Re: Breaking: An attendee at the CPAC conference last week

The right-wing media is saying it, or at least they were until people started dying here, and the right-wing media is virtually indistinguishable from the Republicans at this point. They have a symbiotic relationship.

Trump and company didn't take this seriously until just recently. Since then, the focus has been on downplaying the seriousness of the situation with disinformation and misinformation - lies about the availability of test kits, understating the number of confirmed cases, hiding the number of people who have been tested, etc. Trump actually said that he didn't want the cruise ship off Oakland with 21 confirmed cases to be able to dock because that would increase the number of cases in our country. What leader thinks like that? Everything is transactional to this man.

Look, I understand that the administration doesn't want to cause a panic, but one of the reasons the 1918 flu pandemic caused so many deaths here was that the government didn't want to affect morale during the war, so they weren't forthcoming with information the public needed. The lesson there was that the way a situation like this is best handled is to address it openly and honestly.
