Interesting FACTS about mail voting
Posted by MikeC/TX of TX on 7/30/20 5:06pm Msg #75776
Since POTUS keeps repeating the false narrative that Universal Vote by Mail (but not absentee ballots, which he says are OK, because that's how he and his family vote)will result in massive voter fraud - he did it again this AM - maybe it's time to look at the actual record.

First of all, all 50 states use absentee ballots. the only difference between the absentee ballot and voting by mail as that some states (17 of them, including mine) require an excuse for an absentee ballot. Otherwise, they are functionally the same - you submit an application and if your registration is valid and the application is accepted, you receive a ballot. With the possible exception of the states that vote ONLY by mail, no state mails out ballots automatically to all registered voters.

In the past 20 years, about 250 million absentee ballots have been submitted by mail - of those, 143 were found to be fraudulent.- that amounts to about .0006% of all absentee ballots cast by mail in 20 years.

In Oregon, which has had all mail voting since 2000 (you can also drop your ballot in a special collection box or hand it in), there have only been two fraud cases in about 50 million votes cast - that amounts to .0000004% of all votes cast.

Is the mail safe? We use it to submit tax returns and get refund checks, to get prescription drugs, new credit cards, and bank statements, to get passports and driver's licences, and to get the VERY ID YOU NEED TO CARRY INTO THE POLLING PLACE. But voting by mail is an issue?
