It's not correct to say that they contribute nothing. Puerto Ricans pay most Federal taxes, such as customs taxes, commodity taxes, FICA taxes, etc., just like those of us on the mainland. Anyone living in PR and working in any Federal capacity pays Federal income taxes. PR also has local income taxes, and those tax rates tend to be higher than many state income taxes.

That's a pretty bold statement coming from someone living in a state that has no local income tax and gets more back per capita from the Federal government than it pays in...
