McCarthy wants to be Speaker so bad that he will do anything to get it. He thinks he has earned it. I agree with you that he should have given up after the first ballot, and definitely after the third (where he lost a vote), but ambition causes some people to do stupid things. Even if he somehow manages to win eventually, he will be an incredibly weak Speaker, ,unable to keep his conference in line. and with a four vote majority, that's a recipe for disaster.
I admit that I'm no fan of the GOP, but this is really embarrassing for them. Three ballots, and you get one less vote on the third one? How do you not read the writing on the wall? |
