Supporters of former Brazilian President Bolsonaro have attacked and broken into the country's Congress building, and from the clips I've seen it look's much like our Jan. 6 insurrection. In one clip, a policeman on horseback is attacked by the mob; both he and the horse were beaten, but there was nothing about how serious the injuries were.
The main difference is that the new President, Lula da Silva, has already been sworn in and there were no legislators in the building at the time. Bolsonaro lost a close run-off election in October and immediately started claiming there was election fraud. A Brazilian court found there was no evidence to support his claims (sound familiar?). Bolsonaro is currently in or around Miami; there was a strange video posted the other day of him aimlessly wandering through a Publix supermarket.
One of the leaders of the Jan 6 insurrection, Ali Alexander, appears to also be involved in what is currently happening in Brazil.

After news of the Brazilian riot broke, Alexander sent out a tweet in which he not only refused to condemn what was happening, but claimed to have activated a network of cells within Brazil that he had developed. Was he just boasting and making that up? I guess we'll find out eventually. And we do have an extradition treaty with Brazil...
Right-wing extremists like Alexander just want to burn it all down - they hate the idea of democracy and would prefer a fascist, autocratic government instead, and have no problem with using violence to achieve their goals. Like Alexander and the other cowards, they are rarely on the front lines, preferring to let others do their dirty work. Hopefully, the Brazilian government can quickly get control of the mob and bring the instigators to justice.
