The local Republican Party office admitted that they didn't really vet him - they just wanted someone who could defeat the incumbent Democrat, and Georgie boy did what he does so well - he conned them, and then he conned the voters. Nobody checked him out. A small local weekly newspaper first started asking questions before the election, but being a weekly they couldn't get much attention. The NY Times got wind of it after the election and claimed they broke the story; they didn't, they just made it go national. It kind of shows the importance of small papers, which are a dying breed. |
