and like a battered spouse, we keep voting them back into office because, "we just know that they will change" :-\
As long as the majority of the voting public keep voting against their own self-interests just to keep "their side" in above what is best for themselves and the country (i.e. actually having people who will represent the people, and states, who voted for them, not a political party), we actually do get the government we deserve.
Both of the major political parties keep running candidates, and incumbents, who are more concerned with just how far (left or right) they can go than the people, or the country, because we keep proving that they can; we will still vote them in.
On a personal level, we are willing to fire contractors, employees, or even whole retail merchants who prove that they will lie to get our business and then refuse to even respect us; for some reason, when it comes to holding people who's job it is is to actually represent us, we, the voters, have proven that we will take just about amount of disrespect they throw at us -- as long as they keep that (D or R) next to their name. |
