I hear you, but in this case hydration wasn't the problem - it was a nurse who just wasn't very good at starting an IV. The ER nurse had no problem at all getting it on the first try. I have very prominent veins in my hands and arms; most nurses and phlebotomists love it, because they don't have to hunt for a vein.
One of the worst incidents I've had was falling in my apartment and not being able to get up - I was on the ground for over 24 hours before anyone came to check on me, and was severely dehydrated at that point. The EMTs were able to get an IV line going immediately in order to give me fluids. I never want to go through that again; since I live alone, I now have a panic button I can use to summon help if I need it. |
