I'd bet it was because she was that good. I've been on both sides of that phlebotomist situation - to the point where whenever I have to get a blood draw, I avoid the lab in the office where my doctor is located and go to another location to avoid the phlebotomist who left me with multiple bruises (not to mention the pain) and request the one who always gets it on the first attempt.
And as for getting used to it, I've been there, done that, too. In fact, there were a couple of weeks (ages ago) where I needed a daily shot - and the nurse eventually tricked me into doing the last several ones myself. (These days, that's no longer necessary.) I still couldn't look at the needle until just before I was ready to do the injection. In my wildest dreams, I never thought I'd ever be able to do that! Never say never...
