Attack of the Killer Toms
Posted by Bear900/CA of CA on 1/9/20 1:22pm Msg #31535
This is crazy! Mid-January and we still have lush green 7 foot tall Better Boy tomato vines. Still blooming and kicking out green toms. We pick them, wrap in newspaper, and put in a bag in the garage to ripen. Still have a bunch roasted with garlic cloves, then mashed and frozen for sauces.

Early autumn, I picked a couple of the best tomatoes the vines produced, harvested the seeds and put them away. Late December I planted them in the hothouse. They weren't sprouting so I picked up a couple of heating pads, added a top cover for humidifying, and watched the place turn into a 100 degree jungle. They sprouted within a couple of days!

I now have over 40 tomato seedlings. Only need 7 but have friends lined up for the rest. Plan to have them in the ground mid-March.

Have had freezing weather, rains, and high winds. The ol' toms are still going. The garden beds are full of winter crop and I have a ton of various seedlings in the hothouse waiting their turn. This just gets more interesting.
