Congratulations Bear900! Your leaning toward a good size cab-over slide in camper might just be the ticket over a 5th wheel trailer that you would store most of the time. Three years ago we drove from AZ to Alaska & back. 7 months & 11,000 miles. It was a blast and we took our oldest grandson, who was 6 at the time.
With a cab over truck you can take the ferry inexpensively as they charge by the axle. We met a few couples with such a set up and they appreciated not having to tow a large trailer.
