"The author has an app to install your wifi password into a QR code so you can tell guests just to scan it. I like the idea but putting my wifi password into a third party app."
You don't need a third-party app to do that on an Android phone - it's built into Android 10 and 11.
Go to Settings->Connections->Wi-Fi
Assuming you're connected to the network you need the password for, it will be at the top of the list of available networks with a cog symbol on the right side. Click on the cog.
On the next screen, click at the bottom where it says "QR Code". That will display a QR code that contains the network information, including the password.
If you don't want to do this each time you need it, just click on "Save as Image" to save that QR Code to your Gallery so it's there when you need it.
The next time someone needs your password, either go through the gymnastics or just bring up the QR Code image and let them scan it with their phone to connect their phone to your network automagically.
If you have a third-party QR scanner app that displays the QR Code Data, the password will appear in clear text near the end of the data; you can share the QR Code with that app and take a screenshot to save to your Gallery as well (Code Data is not displayed with the built-in scanner as far as I know). |
