I think the deal is that these are still only being used under emergency FDA approval. You generally can't force anyone to take a vaccine that has not been fully approved. However, once the FDA gives its final approval, everything changes. This is why most school districts can require vaccinations for certain diseases such as polio, which are fully approved by the FDA, yet are on shaky legal grounds if they try to require COVID vaccinations that are not yet fully approved.
Private companies can make their own rules, however. Without getting into the politics of it, it's kind of amusing that the Fox News hosts who have been ranting on air against getting the Covid vaccine have all themselves been vaccinated - because Fox News made that a requirement for ALL personnel, and they had to be able to prove it before they were allowed back in the building without masks and social distancing requirements.
So, short answer - the government cannot force you to do it, but your boss can. |
