The story goes something like this: Back 'round WWII, banana extract was in short supply since it was imported, so the Hostess Company removed the flavouring from the creamy center. After the war, it sort of seemed pointless to re-introduce the original banana flavoured Twinkie and it was less expensive with a plain creamy center. Mickey's substituted the urge for banana flavoured snacks by bringing us the Banana Flip (yum!)
