What I said was "be careful". I agree that I shouldn't have led with "it's illegal" without qualifying that.

You don't ever want to be in the position of being accused of collusion, and that's exactly what CAN happen when you start discussing fees, and especially if you are trying to build a schedule of fees that others can rely on. That's what got the NNA in trouble, and that's what got the SS companies to complain about notaries trying to set fees (while they were probably colluding to do the same thing - I don't believe in coincidence).
So if you want to discuss fees, knock yourself out. Just be aware of the possible consequences. |
