Frankly, I admire her position not to sign any of these nutty contracts, which if actually enforced for any reason would put all our knickers in the wringer. None of them benefits us in any way; they're all one-sided. Fortunately, I've never heard of one being used against an NSA.
In any case, it's ridiculous and unenforceable, Pamela, to take anybody's word over the phone that you don't have to sign their contract. They'll do anything to get you to take the job and then deal with your recalcitrance later, no matter what your understanding was at the get go. I'd suggest getting it in writing before you print.
Think: James Dawson. Surely a person such as yourself who refuses to sign contracts must be familiar with his experience ... which ended up in court. The petulant SS lost its case but in the end didn't pay him either for two big jobs.
