Thanks for giving me an opportunity to spout off about these companies.
There's been lots of discussion lately about countering fees with some of these outfits that start out insultingly low. My personal view is that I don't want to have anything to do with those companies whose business model is to try to get away with paying notaries as little as possible - regardless of what they might agree to pay in an exceptional situation.
There's a good number of decent companies who aren't willing to meet my fees, but at least pay what lots of notaries will work for and consider acceptable. I'm not talking about those guys. I'm also not faulting any other notary who *does* decide to work for some of the lower paying companies (who at least do pay) who can command higher fees on occasion - or regularly because of their location or lack of competition.
I'm just suggesting that, whenever possible, more of us (especially those with lots of knowledge and experience) decide not to support these companies by jumping onboard when these slowly rising fee offers finally reach an acceptable level. We just never know what could be the tipping point for a title co to decide to take their business elsewhere. Not being able to fill an order? Having to hire someone... less than professional? We might see more of these guys losing title company accounts and having to shut their doors. I'd rather see the good guys get the business - or even better, for them to decide to hire directly. Maybe it's a pipe dream, but I figure it's worth a shot.
