I often buy my paper at Staples and participate in the rebate program, as many of you do. I often use my rebate card from a previous purchase to buy the next case(s) of paper. This past week I was doing that same thing. However my rebate card (which I received in January) kept getting rejected. I had another rebate card which I was able to use. When I got home I looked up my card on the Staples rebate site. It showed the entire amount of my card ($43) was used over a two day period in the beginning of March - at places I do not shop! One I hadn't heard of. My guess is these purchases were made on-line. I called the Staples customer service on the back of my card and let them know these were not my purchases (haven't been in a Kmart in years...). It also looks like the purchases were made elsewhere from where I live. Staples said they are aware of fraud going on and will get back to me within 3 days. Apparently the money is being stolen right off the rebate card. I've been told I'll "get my money back". I haven't heard from Staples yet, tomorrow is the third day. I never imagined this kind of scam could occur! Beware! |
