Yes, $5.00 would be an improvement for sure. If they were doing something else with the document than simply notarizing, I think they might be able to claim a processing fee but in this case it was simply notarizing. My view is that either they take the fee at $2.00 (for acknowledgement - or $1.50 for a jurat) or they don't offer the service. Ohio does not, to my knowledge allow an "administrative" fee. If that were the case, we could all charge whatever we wanted up to the max of that fee. I'm going to pursue a complaint against the notary and likely a lawsuit against the store.
