| I would be very careful in the way I would invoice anything other than the state maximum notarization fee. If your state allows you to charge an additional travel fee, can you charge a service fee as well? My guess is no. If your state is silent on this, consult your SOS or other notarial authority and see if it is proper. Finally, if you do invoice a travel fee, make sure you don't deduct those miles as business miles at the end of the year. I stopped showing travel or added travel on my invoices so as not to claim a deduction for an expense that I was directly compensated for. |
