... told me to use CWs. Turns out poor guy, 72 years old, was disabled, in a wheelchair for the past 2 years, and his DL had expired just days before. His caretaker had taken him to DMV to get a senior ID in time for the signing, but they told him they needed to see his birth certificate! The whole thing was outrageous, IMO. He's a CO native, and has had a DL since forever ... and they need his birth certificate? And lender needed the loan signed NOW. Fortunately, CO vital statistics will send a bc in the mail, without a notarized signature .... so he'll get it right away.
Still, in this case, it was up to me (not the lender) to decide if I'd ID him with 2 CWs. I very seldom use CWs no matter what cos most time signers have let their DL lapse cos it's just too inconvenient to go to DMV. Really? I did in this case tho. Funny thing, his caretaker was one of the CWs, and when I recorded him in my journal, I noticed his DL was set to expire this Saturday. He was shocked and claimed not to have noticed!
Also, the tip about asking for passports is good. That's worked for me a couple of times. |
