["When I called both the number he called from AND the direct phone contact I asked for, another "SSA employee' scammer hung up after asking for my SSN."]
From Forbes*: The [SSA] agency says it's receiving new reports from citizens across the country involving phone calls from an individual posing as an SSA employee. In this latest scam, the caller attempts to acquire personally identifiable information (PII) over the phone in order to redirect benefits using direct deposit as well as changing the victim's address and telephone number with SSA.
If you receive a suspicious call from someone alleging to be from SSA, you are also encouraged to may report that information to the OIG at 1-800-269-0271 or online via http://oig.ssa.gov/report.
I went to site to report.
