It's called "neighborhooding" - they spoof the same exchange, thinking that you would be more likely to pick up. When I moved from NY to TX 7 years ago, I kept my NY cell phone number, which has a Long Island area code. I was getting those types of calls constantly, and I knew they were bogus, so I set Hiya to block calls from the first 6 digits of my phone number. It works most of the time; it might work better with the paid version. |
