That's true, Cari, but the reason they were unprofitable is because they've been intentionally giving profit away in a effort to gain market share - which in the NSA world would be like cutting your price in order to get "volume". The reason they finally turned a profit has less to do with their core business than it does with their "cloud" services (AWS), which I'd be willing to bet the average Amazon shopper doesn't even know exists.
I agree wholeheartedly with your ultimate message - stick to your guns, and don't settle for less than what you're worth - but unless you're planning to branch out into commercial cloud computer services, Amazon is not really a good example of how to do it... |
