I'm weary of any actual <Phone> calls these days - since they've come to a virtual Halt! Legitimate companies are going by the wayside it seems. But with 2.5 rating, almost a certainty of a "Problem." OP knows that better than anyone! 
What I guess I'm saying is What makes a company/entity "legitimate" or authentic in my mind these days is IF THEY PAY (and within 30). Could care less where they're calling from; if an honest, reliable source offers me a job they've come by thru verifiable, honest means, I'd be loathe to deny on basis that I cannot find an "office" for them.
To readers (general): Let's not get hung up, folks on where job comes from. To say Safe, make it a practice (rule) to work with WHO YOU KNOW.
