Oregon expects more than 1 million visitors. roads will be jammed likely starting this weekend and through Wed/Thurs with Mon-Wed being the worst.
There is not a room to be rented. Lots of people have sold out make shift campgrounds in parking lots, farm fields, fairgrounds, air fields, anywhere there is a piece of ground. In addition to that 100k showing up in Madras, a community of 5k, there's a ranch nearby with a permit for 50k that sold out months ago. There is only one highway, H97, one lane each way for most of it, that feeds that area.
Airports are expecting possible chaos since all their tiedowns are reserved and there will no doubt be folks who think they can just fly in for the day. there are no cars available for renting as well.
we are being told to stock up on food, gas, supplies and prepare as if in a disaster. |
