I think once again, there's a blurring of the lines between an electronic notary stamp and remote notarizing. I don't have the former, but I did look into it years ago, as it's been legal here for a very long time. As I understood it - at least under CA notary law - an electronic notary seal (AKA 'digital stamp') consists of encrypted computer code (provided on a thumb drive) that securely gets inserted into an electronic document. I'm not even sure an image is created. To use in this state, personal appearance is still required, but not any paper documents. It's all digital.
This is going to be very confusing because even some of the press release-based articles I've read (saw one recently on FB about TX), are mixing up those two concepts. Fasten your seat belts, folks... |
