I usually start inquiring about payment at 35 days or so, figuring that if they paid at the 30 day mark and mailed a check it will take a few days to arrive.
The current owner is someone who calls himself Onesimus. He was making all kinds of excuses...saying that his mother had died and because of that he had gotten behind on payments. He didn't use that as an excuse when the check bounced but promised that he was getting things straightened out with the bank and would send a replacement check immediately (including bank fees that I incurred). A few weeks later the check still hadn't arrived and I wrote him another email, stating that I would then contact the title company, lender and anyone else who I thought might help me to get paid. He continued to ignore me until about a month after my last communication with him, when a check from him suddenly turned up in the mail. Needless to say, I deposited it IMMEDIATELY and hoped that this check too wouldn't bounce.
Bottom line....I wouldn't take another job from him. I don't need that kind of hassle.
