Heads up - new phone scam
Posted by MikeC/TX of TX on 9/5/19 7:04pm Msg #609956
Caller ID says it's Verizon Wireless from an 800 number. I figured it was a telemarketing call and ignored it. It went to voice mail, and it was a robocall saying that Verizon was now signing up people for 5G service. Um, no, if 5G is available in your area and your phone can handle it, you get it without signing up for anything.

Did a little research and found out that this scam is trying to get your Verizon PIN and the last four digits of your SSN.

Verizon would never call you to ask for this info - they already have it. And if the scammer says he just wants to "verify" it, the correct response is to ask him to read it back to you - and if it's wrong, just hang up. An expletive just before you hang up is appropriate but optional...

It's getting worse - keep your guard up.
