Very seldom were scan backs required, except for a purchase or sale, until SD came on the scene and the notary field was flooded with inexperienced NSA's who made plenty of mistakes. Then too, as mentioned above, title and lenders would rather we do the work, unpaid, rather then hire a person and pay them a salary, It's also the same reason these companies use SD, instead of hiring someone to make phone calls for each assignment.
