Read RESPA rules, 1 copy MUST be left with the signer. It is required by law in case they decide to withdraw. It has the date for the rescission on it.

As for the ID's....if they want more than 1 why don't they tell the borrower?

I've been a real estate agent for over 20 years. Never ever has it been a requirement to have more than 1 ID.
