deposit, three men ran fast from behind me, two chasing one. They all had hoodies and blue jeans on. I thought they were high school kids, initiating the chasee for a gang induction. I froze, then one of the two chasers stopped to look into the back of a truck, I thought he might be looking for a weapon. I called 911 and left a trouble call with dispatch. Five seconds later a Sheriff's Deputy called me on my cell and asked for more description of the men. I made my deposit and walked back to my car. I'm pulling out of the parking lot and I get a call from the Sheriff's Deputy, telling me the two men were in hot pursuit because the young man they were chasing had just burglarized a private residence and stole all this woman's jewelry. The reason one of the chasers was looking into the back of the truck was to see if the burglar threw the jewelry bag into the truck bed. The Sheriff apprehended the young man as soon as he and I hung up.
He called me later to thank me for going with my instincts. The young man was being booked at juvenile hall not far away, and the other two men were happy to get their mother's jewelry back. The thief had thrown his heist into the weeds not far from where he was apprehended. There is justice sometimes.
