His base has been reacting on social media, and they are NOT happy with what he did because it went against what he said he would do on the campaign trail regarding getting involved with Syria and regime change in general. Twitter has been lighting up with people accusing him of being as bad as Obama or HRC.
Some sort of American response was appropriate IMO, but this seemed more emotional than reasoned - he flipped 180 degrees after seeing the pictures of the children. Emotion is dangerous because you're not thinking things through when you react emotionally - definitely not a good Presidential trait.
As to whether Congress should have been consulted first, the jury's still out on that one; I'm pretty sure most of them would have approved this or a similar action. But the fact is that he did exactly what he said Obama shouldn't do 4 years ago after a much larger chemical attack. |
