There are a lot of foreign companies on the NYSE - there are entire ETFs consisting of nothing but foreign companies. Those who do business here have to pay taxes here. That doesn't make them American companies.
What Toyota builds here is primarily for US consumption; the US is NOT where they make most of their products - less than 10% of their global workforce is located here, and they have manufacturing plants in at least 17 other countries.
Nothing they are planning to do impacts the plants here - they're talking about shifting production of one model from Canada to Mexico, so if anyone should be upset it should be Canada. A foreign company should have the right to make business decisions that do not involve us without interference from us. |
