The Spiceman's greatest hits, part 1
Posted by MikeC/TX of TX on 3/20/17 6:05pm Msg #69868
1. Sean Spicer today on the FBI investigation of collusion between the Trump campaign staff and the Russians: "There's an assumption that because there's an investigation, it must be about something."

Let that one roll around in your mind for a moment. On what planet would an investigation NOT be about something?

2, Spicer today on a question about Trump's frequent weekend trips to Mar-a-Lago at a cost to taxpayers of between $2 million and $3 million per trip: "It's a part of being President".

No, it's a part of being an entitled rich guy who likes to spend weekends at his private resort and REALLY likes when someone else pays the tab to get him there and back, AND he also makes money housing the staff that has to travel with him. What - you thought the Secret Service gets to stay at Mar-a-Lago for free? Trump charged them for the use of his private plane during the campaign - why would it be any different with this property?

We didn't hire him to take an expensive golf vacation every weekend. And before anyone starts complaining about the vacation trips Obama took, Trump is on a course to spend more this year alone on personal travel than what Obama spent in 8 years.

3. On the same subject of Trump's frequent and expensive visits to Mar-a-Lago, Spicer also dismissed concerns about funding cuts to the community block grants that partially fund Meals on Wheels as well as many other services as "cute". Cute? There are real people being affected by these cuts. The money being spent on Trump's weekend jaunts could easily make up the money at risk for these services, which are a minuscule part of the Federal Budget, but Spicer thinks it's "cute" to compare them.

4. Spicer said today that Trump's golfing habit is good and Obama's was bad because Trump "uses his game in ways that serve US interests". Really? In the 11 times over the past 8 weeks where Trump has "visited" a golf course (can't tell if he played because the press is not allowed to see, but he wasn't out there for hours personally policing the grounds so we know what he was doing), he has only played golf once with a world leader. What were the other 10 times - practice? How is that serving US interests?

Does anyone want to bet on how long Spicer lasts in this job? How long can you agree to lie for your boss before you realize your soul is dead?
