The GOP and the WH are both desperately trying to shift the conversation from the Trump campaign's possible collusion with Russia to the supposedly illegal leaks of information to reporters.
When Wikileaks was dumping stolen email from John Podesta's personal email account and the DNC's email server, Trump and the GOP were ecstatic and justified it by saying that the American public had a right to know what the Dems were doing, even if the way the information was obtained was illegal.
Now that the shoe is on the other foot, the GOP and the WH contend that there was no justification for leaking information about Mike Flynn because the information was obtained illegally; in other words, the American public had no right to know about what Flynn was doing.
You can't have it both ways. If one was wrong, they were both wrong. Hiding stuff from the American public is never an appropriate response - let's try to remember who works for who.
As Richard Nixon taught us, the best disinfectant for a bad government has always been sunlight. |
