Incredibly bad optics
Posted by MikeC/TX of TX on 5/10/17 7:15pm Msg #70187
Trump fires Comey, tries to blame it on the assistant AG. Claims it's because of the way Comey treated Clinton 10 months ago, but we come to find out that Comey went looking for more resources for the Russia investigation last week. Occam's razor tells us this was the real reason he was fired.

AG Sessions, who allegedly recused himself from anything to do with the Russia investigation, was involved in the decision to fire Comey. To quote Sen. Angus King, if that's recusal I'd hate to see what full involvement looks like.

Russian FM jokes with the US press this morning about Comey's firing while Tillerson stands there grinning like an idiot - a job he seems to have grown into. Trump then meets with both Russian FM and Ambassador in the Oval Office. US press pool is not allowed in; the pictures we have of the meeting come from a TASS (Russian state media) photographer who WAS allowed in. WH says the official WH photographer was also there, but he apparently forgot to bring his camera because the only photos we get to see are from TASS.

To add insult to injury, who's sitting in the Oval when the US press is finally allowed in? Henry Kissinger, Nixon's Secretary of State during the Watergate scandal. Why was he there? Perhaps he was tutoring Trump on how to shut down an investigation the right way?

This whole thing stinks to a level we haven't seen in over 40 years. Trump is too stupid to realize how ham-handed he has been with trying to deal with this - this is reality, not reality TV. Every move he makes raises more questions, and he thinks he can somehow finesse his way through it. The latest polls, taken after the AHCA debacle and before he fired Comey, have his approval rating at about 36% and dropping like a stone. He will bottom out at some point - maybe 30% - and that will be his base. 30% doesn't get you a second term; 30% may not get you past a primary challenge, depending on how many are in the clown car with you.

What say you, Trumpsters? Are you tired of winning yet? He's lied about everything he promised you he would do. We tried to warn you -we told you what a con artist he has been for years - but you still bought into it. And now that the things we warned you about become true, there's no one here on the right willing to defend him. The crickets are deafening...
