President Trump, who has no compunction about calling out and belittling members of his own staff and party, cannot bring himself to attack four things by name :
Vladimir Putin The alt-right White supremacists Neo-Nazis
Why? Probably because the last three are part of his base support (and he's in love with the first one). Among the white supremacist/alt-right/neo-Nazi protesters chanting "Blood and soil" (a phrase used in propaganda by the Nazi Agriculture ministry) were others heard to be saying "Seig Heil" and "Heil Trump". As someone whose father survived the Normandy Invasion and fought the Nazis in France, this is extremely repulsive.
Trump's comments so far about what happened last night and today in Charlottesville are incredibly weak. Where all of the other politicians are placing the blame squarely at the feet of white supremacists, Trump said there is blame on "many sides". Many sides? This is not a polygon, there are only two sides - right and wrong. Pick one.
There are two people who should be escorted out of the WH first thing on Monday morning:
- Steven Bannon, who as publisher of Brieibart declared it would be the platform of the alt-right. - Sebastian Gorka, a Hungarian immigrant who is an anti-Semite, Islamophobe, and neo-Nazi with fraudulent academic credentials and has been unable to get a security clearance because of his background.
Neither of these two has any business serving the American public, much less collecting a paycheck from them. If Gen Kelly is serious about getting control of the WH staff, these two will be gone. We will see where Trump stands on the issues of fascism and white supremacy by the way he handles their continued employment. Want to drain the swamp? Start by eliminating the bottom feeders. |
