It was interesting, but clearly, he cherry-picked a few ideas from the plan. That's not the whole plan - for instance, what about the deductions that are being eliminated? And as far as the "death tax", I doubt the people who were for its elimination understood that it only affects a few extremely wealthy families.
My biggest quibbles with the tax plan are not that it came from Trump, but that 1) it does more for the wealthy than it does for the middle and lower class, and 2) it adds over $1 trillion to the deficit. Whatever happened to the deficit hawks who screamed that tax cuts have to be paid for by spending cuts? The administration keeps insisting the cuts will somehow pay for themselves, but anyone who still believes that is fooling himself. And there is little doubt that when the rubber hits the road and they have to make cuts in spending, they will be looking at the so-called "entitlements" - Social Security and Medicare, programs we've all been paying into for years. It ain't an entitlement if you have to pay for it. |
