Trump admits his son lied to Congress
Posted by MikeC/TX of TX on 8/5/18 6:21pm Msg #71900
That loud thumping sound you heard this morning was Donald Trump, Jr being thrown under the bus by his father.

In the midst of a Sunday tweetstorm this morning, Trump admitted that the meeting Don Jr set up with the Russians in 2016 at Trump Tower WAS about getting dirt on Clinton and not about adoptions. He asserted that it was perfectly legal and happens all the time in politics, plus nothing came of it, plus he didn't know anything about it.

It is illegal under federal election law to solicit ANYTHING of value - such as opposition research - from foreign citizens or states for use in an American election, even if nothing comes of it. He apparently has spent too much time listening to Rudy, who used to be a federal prosecutor and should know better. Plus, if it was all legal and aboveboard, why does he continue to insist that he knew nothing about it?

Beyond that, the admission opens Jr to a perjury charge for lying to a Congressional committee. I heard comments today from a number of sources that the reason Jr. hasn't been called to talk to Mueller's team is that he's now a target of the investigation. If that's true, we can expect to see indictments come down against Jr. and possibly Kushner as well.

The stupidity and arrogance of this administration are mind-boggling at times. The reason the Mueller investigation is taking so long is that Trump keeps handing him more evidence to look into.
