Yesterday, State/Federal Hazardous Materials Removal contractors came to our 20 acres in Carpinteria foothills and scraped away a foot of ash and all the debris of metal, widened our driveway (I was hoping for curbs, gutters and a fire hydrant, but no such luck). Feels great to start fresh. We had just punched a new well in November, before the fire. The entire water infrastructure needs to be redone. Not cheap.
That was our contribution, big time. But also planted two new olive trees, corn, Persian cucumbers and more arugula. It was a great earth day around here, and we took the dogs to the beach, hit the SLO flea market, collected kelp for garden fertilizer, and made time for the mineral hot springs. I was in bed at 8pm. Had a great day!
Always feels good to purge stuff we don't need or use.
