1. That was the official forecast map from NOAA. It says so right at the top.
2. It is against the law to publish a false weather report and represent it as coming from the NWS; doing so is punishable by a fine and/or prison time. Look it up - 18 U.S. Code 2074.
3. Weather forecasters do not alter the official map - they use it as the basis for their own graphics, using the official forecast for their own computer models, and they are clear that it's THEIR forecast, not the official one.
4. The forecast had changed the day BEFORE he tweeted that AL was in the path.
5. The map he used in the Oval Office was 4 days old, obsolete, and did not originally show AL in the path before someone took a Sharpie to it.
6. He is STILL tweeting about this today, trotting out even older maps in a desperate attempt to show he was right. The fact of the matter is that AL was not in the path at the time he said it WAS in the path, and no amount of fake "proof" is going to change that.
7. The official forecasts and maps are used by emergency management departments to plan and allocate resources to meet an emergency. POTUS has no business altering that forecast or making statements about it that are not true - that just confuses an already confusing situation, which is why the NWS office in AL almost immediately sent out a notice that this was incorrect. He's supposed to be the one in charge; his words matter.
8. Had he been actively monitoring the situation as he said he would be instead of playing golf on Sunday when a massive storm was headed towards the east coast, he would have been aware of the situation. That he seemed ignorant of the fact that the forecasted path had changed completely suggests that he was either getting bad information or wasn't paying attention.
I'm glad you think this is a joke. There are millions of people in the path of a natural disaster, and POTUS is laser-focused on proving he didn't make a mistake rather than on the problem itself. He is simply unable to admit that he is wrong about anything, ever. That's dangerous behavior in a leader, and you condone it because it's Trump. You've bought the lie that he can do nothing wrong. |
