Re: At least in my area, notaries are afraid to say no.

If you look at the CD and or HUD-1 at the notary fees that are being paid by the title company it may turn your stomach. I always quote that my fees start at $100-125 and go up from there. It's that saying our mother's used to tell us that "you get what you pay for" and I'm worth my quoted rate.

The other day (I'm sad to say) I took a Seller package from an SS that I've signed for before and he pays when he says he will. It was a measly $75 and when I looked at the CD he was making $200. We had to call the escrow officer 4 times and deal with issues that took a long time on a CA property. The theory of Seller / Buyer packages being "quick" has to stop when they say that they don't take long. Then they can do and do them. It took me 1.5 hours at the table and a 30-minute drive one way plus 30 minutes to print.

I put a note on my phone by his name to start asking for $125 from now on. I'm sure that I'll say something to him next time that he calls me because in my opinion he is being dishonest and my "being nice or easy" does not pay my bills or put food on my table.

Today I spent another $2,000.00 on car repairs because I travel 14 counties. Add it all up and $100 to $125 locally is a deal. If we don't stand up to low ballers who are riding on our coat tails who will. I'd rather not take the business than have another resentment with the SS.

Just recently I had 1st Am Title say they pay N30 which freaked me out. I waited a day and canceled the appointment. This is a red flag for me (not FASS) and it turned me off. She was willing to pay $150 no problem and the N30 is dishonest in my opinion because I know for sure that other 1st American offices all over the country pay upon funding which is the law.

Take what you need.
