I've handled a couple of these, as well. They didn't bother with a title company. The amount of the whole transaction wasn't much more than what tc fees would be. I think I did one or two similar ones where the property involved was a car.
We do need to proceed with caution, but these have all been situations where the players were in different states and had never met. The car one, both parties were pretty excited, especially the buyer. The car (a pretty nice used Mercedes) showed up on a big car trailer rig just as we had wrapped up the transaction. If it was a larger deal, with title involved, I'd be suspicious. |
