She had actually received a confirmation from the company.
The signer showed us that he was sent the name and phone number of a notary, but when he called her to confirm she hung up. Then he received the name and number of a 2nd notary. She is the one who arrived just before I did. Of course I had not received an actual confirmation so my name and number had not been given to the signer. Who knows how many notararies received the initial request. I just found it strange that I was sent the actual signing address after I had responded that I was available at the offered fee.
The signer told us he had paid $125 on the company's web site. The company's offer to the notary was $40, which is OK for one notarization (a VIN verification) in my neighborhod.
I gave the signer my card and let him know I was available for any future needs. I also gave the notary my card. It was actually quite funny. The other notary suggested he cancel the request and just pay her directly. Even if there was a cancellation fee it probably would have cost him less overall. I hope this other notary contacts me so I can find out if she has ever accepted work from this company before. I got the impression that this was a first for her. |
