This the email reply I got from SOS ( you can also email or call them directly)

Dear Gavina Franklin,

Thank you for contacting our office regarding the duties of a notary public.

California notaries public are not permitted to verify the signer’s capacity (also known as) for a notarial act.

Please note, there are no provisions in the California notary laws that allows for the correction of a notarial act. If a correction is needed, a new notarial act is required.
